Skate South West

What Is Skate South West?

"Skate South West" is a short edit I created during my second year at University, with the goal of showcasing the incredible skateboarding talent in the Southwest. I wanted to highlight the region's skaters who often go unnoticed in the broader skateboarding scene. Throughout the filming, I took the opportunity to ask the skaters what skateboarding means to them. Their responses were eye-opening and emphasized that skating is so much more than just performing tricks—it’s a way to connect with others, express themselves, and even find personal growth. By including these reflections, I aimed to show that skateboarding is a deeply personal experience for many, and it’s about more than just what happens on the board.

Putting the project together was a rewarding challenge. I wanted to balance showcasing the skaters' impressive skills with telling a more meaningful story about the culture and community of the Southwest skate scene. I spent countless hours editing to make sure the footage captured not only the technical aspects but also the energy, camaraderie, and the unique spirit that drives these skaters. I’m incredibly happy with how it turned out, as it’s a celebration of the local skate culture and a reminder that skating is about more than the tricks—it’s about the people and the experiences shared along the way.
